Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced Wednesday that the prisoner release process initiated by the Venezuelan state continues and that 406 releases have been completed.

The statements were made during a press conference with national and international media, where she was accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, and the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.
She explained that these actions are part of a policy aimed at opening a new chapter in the country’s political life, based on dialogue, coexistence, and the recognition of ideological diversity.
She also emphasized that understanding between different sectors is only possible through mutual respect and the guarantee of human rights. Hate speech and acts of violence will not be tolerated, she added. “The law will be strictly enforced.”
The acting president specified that the release plan began last December, as a result of direct coordination between the Executive Branch and the justice system. “This process was spearheaded by President Nicolás Maduro, precisely with the aim of creating spaces for understanding, coexistence, and tolerance,” she emphasized.
In this first phase, 194 releases were granted, and the process—she clarified—remains open and active. She explained that the cases are evaluated under specific criteria that exclude serious crimes such as homicide and drug trafficking, prioritizing those related to the constitutional order, as well as acts associated with political violence, intolerance, and hate crimes.
In this regard, Rodríguez indicated that the central objective of the initiative is to create conditions for political détente and foster spaces for democratic coexistence. “This opportunity is for Venezuela and for the Venezuelan people to see a new era reflected, one where coexistence, where the recognition of others allows us to build and construct a new spirituality,” she affirmed.
It is essential to report the truth. This process must be free of the despicable narratives that some NGOs have tried to peddle about Venezuela, the acting president stated, referring to groups that charge the families of detainees and offer them false promises of release.
She also highlighted the role of the Vice President for Citizen Security, Diosdado Cabello, who is leading the process in constant coordination with the judicial branch, and described the work as complex and rigorous, but necessary to ensure that every decision strictly adheres to the legal framework.
